Resilient Networks' Smartnumbers Provide a Robust Call Distribution Solution

Today, communication is the heart of every business, but it is especially important when it comes to financial services organizations. Specifically, banks have an obligation to their customers to ensure published telephone numbers are not exposed to risk potential disruption to the infrastructure. With continuity planning requirements imposed by the FSA, banks these days need to increase the robustness of their communications.

One company, Aculab (News - Alert), a provider of computer telephony hardware and software, has unveiled that Resilient Networks is using its Prosody X 1U chassis to deliver the benefits of smartnumbers to a large commercial clearing bank in the United Kingdom. The bank wanted a solution that would reduce its operational costs and give it organizational agility, with visibility and centralized control of its voice services. It wanted all calls to be delivered to any location, regardless of UK numbers, with automatic failover to its other sites or chosen, off-site locations.

“With Aculab’s new configuration, we were able to build our platform as a number of virtual machines, symmetrically deployed across physical hosts. At the scale we’ve deployed for the bank, that enabled significant savings on App server costs, but with no compromise on redundancy and resilience,” said David Collins, Resilient’s VP of marketing, in a statement.

So, Resilient and its partner are now delivering Direct Connect service to the bank via Resilient’s smartnumbers service, which incorporates Aculab’s Prosody X 1U high availability chassis, identified by Resilient as the PoP. Using Resilient’s smartnumbers meant that the bank gained its private exchange, bypassing the single point of failure at the PSTN edge.

Resilient chose to design its system around the latest addition to Aculab’s telephony hardware portfolio because it needed deployable hardware. Aculab’s remote APIs, with the distributed architecture of Aculab’s Prosody X 1U separates telephony functions from the app.

Overall, the result centralized the banks’ inbound voice services reduced costs and management overheads, due to the direct SS7 interconnect between the PSTN and the bank, which is facilitated by Resilient’s use of Aculab’s Prosody X 1U chassis. Additional cost benefits were gained by the removal of unnecessary ISDN, DDI and legacy business continuity services.

David Samuel, Aculab’s global sales and marketing director, commented, “The input of Resilient Networks during the concept stages for the Prosody X 1U chassis has proven vital in its development and it is rewarding to see the results being rolled out on a large scale/ to such a prestigious customer.”
